"Duncan is professional, meticulous, experienced and knowledgeable. I had been struggling for a while with some old and almost useless hearing aids. After two visits at home, the first for discussion, analysis, and thorough testing, and the second a follow-up at which he brought and fitted the most superb and up-to-date hearing aids, I can now 'hear the birds sing' (and, of course, much more!). What a revelation. Thank you, Blackdown Hearing."

FAQs
Who can book a home visit?
Our home visit service is ideal for anyone who finds it difficult to travel to our clinic, whether due to mobility issues, health concerns, or personal preference. If you're unsure, get in touch and we’ll be happy to advise.
Which areas do you cover for home visits?
We provide home visit hearing care throughout the TA postcode area. Available throughout Bridgwater, Burnham-on-Sea, Chard, Crewkerne, Dulverton, Exmoor, Ilminster, Langport, Minehead, Somerton, Taunton, Wellington, and surrounding villages. If you’re unsure whether we cover your area, just get in touch - we’ll do our best to accommodate you.
How soon can I have a home visit?
We’ll always do our best to arrange your home visit as soon as possible, but availability may vary depending on our clinic schedule and your location. As a local, independent audiologist, our diary can get busy, so we recommend booking in advance where possible.
Do you offer earwax removal at home?
Unfortunately, we don’t currently offer earwax removal as a home visit. The equipment required for this procedure is based at our clinic, where we can ensure it’s carried out safely and effectively. If you need earwax removal, we’d be happy to see you at our Taunton clinic.
Do I need special equipment or space at home?
No – we bring everything needed for your hearing test or hearing aid appointment. We just ask for a quiet room with a flat surface to work on and access to a nearby power point. This helps us set up our equipment and ensure accurate results.
Is a home visit hearing test as accurate as one in a clinic?
Yes – we use high-quality, portable equipment to ensure precise results in quiet, suitable environments.
Do I need someone with me for the appointment?
Not necessarily, but you’re welcome to have a partner or family member present.
Will I always see the same audiologist?
Yes – continuity of care is central to how we work. You’ll be looked after by the same experienced audiologist from your initial assessment through to fitting and follow-up care.
Is there an extra cost for a home visit?
Yes – there is a £25 additional charge for each home visit, added to our standard fees. This helps cover the extra time, travel, and equipment required to deliver our service to you. Any future aftercare or service appointments at home would also be subject to the same charge.
What hearing aids would be available during a home visit?
We offer a wide range of the latest digital hearing aids from trusted brands like Phonak, ReSound, Widex, and Starkey. As an independent clinic, we’re not tied to any single manufacturer, so we’ll only recommend what’s genuinely right for you.
All hearing aids come with comprehensive aftercare, expert fitting, and ongoing support in your own home.
Can I choose hearing aids during a home visit?
Yes. If hearing aids are recommended, and you’d like to proceed, we’ll guide you through the most suitable options and help you choose what’s right for you. If you decide to proceed, we’ll arrange your new hearing aids and confirm a fitting at your home around two weeks later - and as always, there’s no pressure.
